The Gulf Coast is home to many thriving and competitive businesses, but perhaps the most competitive of them all are the companies within the workboat construction and shipbuilding industry.

Recently the U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced $9.98 million in grants to pay for modernizations that will increase productivity and help the country’s small shipyards compete in the global marketplace. One of these shipyards is LEEVAC Shipyards, LLC (Jennings, Louisiana) who will use a $667,324 grant to purchase a pipe and tube bending system that will bend pipes to the correct geometry required, eliminating the need to weld pipe sections by hand.

While there are a number of shipbuilding facilities throughout the Gulf Coast region, the facilities at LEEVAC are second to none. From our well-equipped CAD engineering department to our state-of-the-art indoor fabrication shops complete with an automated NC cutting table, panel line, CNC pipe fabricator we provide everything needed to get the job done quickly, efficiently and safely.

Since its inception, LEEVAC has served virtually every aspect of the commercial maritime and workboat construction industry. However, the company’s core business is the design and fabrication of offshore supply vessels and offshore platform vessels. They have the capabilities to build these specialized vessels ranging from 160 feet to 300 feet in length, with hull widths from 45 to 60 feet and hull depths up to 26 feet. These vessels are built to international specifications and have been deployed worldwide. Their vessels also meet all safety requirements and regulations including the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), International Maritime Organization (IMO), Bureau Veritas (BV), Det Norske Veritas (DNV), firefighting (FIFI) organizations, the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), and other pertinent regulatory needs. In addition, they have a naval architect on staff to help ensure that all safety and certification requirements are met.

Headquartered in southern Louisiana, LEEVAC Shipyards, LLC is perfectly situated to serve the US Gulf Coast. The new construction shipyard, formally known as LEEVAC Shipyards Jennings, LLC, is located about five miles east of Jennings, Louisiana and is situated on a180-acre site on the west bank of the Mermentau River. Their shipyard, located just off of old Highway 90, is easily accessible by truck, barge and rail. At the new construction shipyard the river is 350 feet wide and 60 feet deep. Heading 25 miles south by water, the Mermentau River intersects the Intracoastal Canal at mile marker 202. The Intracoastal Canal is the main artery of marine transportation on the US Gulf Coast and a direct passageway to the Gulf of Mexico.

The experienced craftsmen and shipbuilders at LEEVAC take great personal pride in every vessel that leaves their facility. The quality of our workmanship is unsurpassed and our vessels are built to international specification as well as meeting all safety requirements, industry regulations and certification criteria.

Through the years, LEEVAC has served a broad range of customers stretching from the U.S gulf coast to Alaska and across America from coast to coast. Many of the companies they serve are among the most prominent in the oilfield exploration services, construction and transportation, excursion and gaming, and commercial fishing industries. Some of their major customers include Tidewater Marine, Hornbeck Offshore Services, AET Offshore, Seacor, Gulfmark, Seabulk, Cal Dive International, Candyfleet Offshore, Edison Chouest, Pinnacle, Hollywood Gaming, Horseshoe Casino, Ameristar Casino and International Protein. Any of these customers can tell you why LEEVAC is the leading steel fabrication and USA shipyard.
