CLdN Launches Spanish/UK RoRo Service
European short sea Ro-Ro specialist CLdN introduced a new call at the Port of Liverpool, opening a pure RoRo service in a triangle trade between Santander (ES), Liverpool (UK) and Dublin (IE).The new service will operate a weekly loop connecting Spain directly to the UK and Ireland. This will bring the total number of calls from Iberia to Liverpool to eight.Market uncertainty has presented a number of ongoing issues in the supply chain for business’s across the UK. Peel Ports Marks Record Container Volume From Single Vessel
The Port of Liverpool’s deep-water container terminal has broken a new terminal record after the MSC Federica docked and exchanged 5,452 TEUs.The vessel is part of MSC’s Turkey Canada service which has seen remarkable success and includes calls at Montreal, Liverpool, Sines, Valencia, Barcelona and Tekirdağ amongst other terminals. Peel Ports Applies Air Traffic Systems for Marine Ops
Air traffic control technology is to be applied to a commercial port group in the UK for the first time. Peel Ports Group, the UK’s second biggest port operator, is investing £2.7m ($3.5m) across its network of seven Statutory Harbor Authorities to streamline marine operations. The package of technologies includes vessel identification and tracking, solid-state radar and weather stations. It will be complemented by a new online booking system for its customers and a comprehensive people development program.
Peel Ports Appoints Schaap as Container Director
Peel Ports has appointed APM Terminals’ Jouke Schaap to head up its entire container operations. The position has been created to drive commercial opportunities focussed on the company’s network of terminals and port-centric logistics facilities. Most recently Head of Commercial for Maasvlakte 2 container terminal in Rotterdam, Jouke has overall responsibility for Peel Ports’ container businesses in Liverpool, Dublin and the Manchester Ship Canal. He took up his position in May. Peel Ports’ container terminals handled over 980,000 TEU in 2015, representing over 9% of the UK and Irish market.
Upgrade Preps Port of Heysham for Larger RoRos
A new link-span bridge at the Port of Heysham is set to increase throughput at the Lancashire port by allowing it to accommodate larger RoRo vessels operating on the Irish Sea. The £10 million investment by owners Peel Ports will create a fourth berth for freight and passenger traffic and help operators to respond more effectively to growing demand. The funding will also see a new pontoon built to support offshore crew transfer vessels, a new port entrance created and various improvements to the port IT and terminal operating systems.
MSC-Peel Ports Partner on Liverpool2 Trials
Marine-based commissioning work is now underway at Liverpool2, with Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) committing vessel support to Peel Ports to help make the trial a success. Berthing and marine trials began last week with MV MSC Nederland and will be followed by a variety of cargo handling tests throughout July and August. As well as 3,007 TEU MV MSC Nederland, four other MSC vessels will be used during the trials – 2,668 TEU MV MSC Santhya, 2,768 TEU MV MSC Koroni, 4,340 TEU MV MSC Sandra and 4,355 TEU MV MSC Alyssa.
Virtual Crane Helps Liverpool Prep for Mega Ships
In anticipation of the arrival of five of the world’s largest cranes at the Port of Liverpool this autumn, Peel Ports has introduced an on-site virtual training simulator designed to ensure all operators are ready to maneuver the giant structures from the first day of installation. TOS, AutoGates Boost Liverpool Port Throughput
